A Royal Week From Start to Finish!

What an amazing turnout it was! The Family Business Network - Next Generation (FBN NxG) International Summit got off to a flying start with the learning journeys preceding the main event. These learning journeys are an addition to the summit, featuring visits to family companies and cultural sites. This journey was all centered around the theme Turn the Tide - Maritime Challenges.

Royal Van der Leun, a family company with over a century of history, played a significant role in these journeys. Anly den Breejen from Royal Van der Leun and Janneke de Graaf from Baggerbedrijf de Boer – Dutch Dredging guided 20 NxG’ers from all around the world through various sites in the Netherlands. The group visited the iconic mills of Kinderdijk before arriving at Royal Van der Leun, where they enjoyed a rich mix of personal, cultural, and thematic exploration.

Throughout the journey, participants had the chance to get to know each other better and form connections. They also received insightful facts about the Netherlands and the maritime industry from Kees van der Graaf of Baggerbedrijf de Boer – Dutch Dredging. Following these activities, the group engaged in discussions about the challenges and opportunities involved in taking over a family business, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that these businesses remain within the family for generations to come. Naturally, our giant wooden clogs and traditional Dutch treats like ‘Stroopwafels’ and ‘Stamppot’ were part of the visit. We deeply appreciate everyone’s participation and enthusiasm!

The success of the week's beginning was a great omen for its conclusion. Her Royal Highness Queen Máxima of the Netherlands graced the summit's closing ceremony as the guest of honor. Anly had the privilege of highlighting the week's value to the attendees, marking a very special moment.
